Product Details

Material: coarse pottery ceramic Glaze: kiln-change reactive glaze Decoration: hand-painted red-crowned crane Handle: arched lifting handle, copper tone Diameter: 12 cm Height to handle: 15.7 cm Note: each piece varies in glaze pattern

The glaze on this pot is not a color anyone chose. Kiln-change firing lets the surface do what it wants, so the greens, coppers and grays drift across the body and no two pots come out the same.

A pot with a hand in it

  • Kiln-change glaze — the mottled green and bronze surface forms in the firing, which is why each piece carries its own map of color.
  • Hand-painted crane — a red-crowned crane and a curl of cloud painted onto the body, the traditional motif for long life.
  • Lifting copper-tone handle — a raised arched handle that folds back flat, so the pot pours from above and stores without taking height.
  • Coarse pottery body — thick-walled unrefined clay that holds heat far longer than thin porcelain.
  • Compact size — 12cm across and 15.7cm to the top of the handle, sized for one or two people rather than a table of six.
  • Recessed lid with a rounded knob — seats firmly and stays put through a full pour.

For the person whose tea is a small daily ceremony rather than something that happens in a hurry.
