Made extremely cheaply. Broke within a few hours of the package arriving. 0/10. Would not recommend or purchase.

I bought this as a gift. I wish it was a little bigger. It works like it should. When tipped over the magnetic sand reacts with the magnetic in the base plate. The sand run out fairly quickly.

This thing is pretty neat but be aware that each flip lasts only 30 seconds.

It was under $15, I didn't expect too much, so I wasn't really disappointed. My discovery was 15 seconds worth of filings, thin glass, no cushion between the glass and magnet, very fine so the "blob shape" is what you end up with. But it does its job, something to fiddle with.

This is a pretty conversation piece that is nice to give out. I have a slight complaint.... this says hour glass. I missed in the description body where it said approximately 25 second timer. The headline says hour glass. Now... I can't say I thought it truly was longer than 25 seconds. The last one (another brand that was same price) ran for a full minute.

This is my third magnetic/lead filing hour glass that I have purchased over the past four years. The design flaw is due to the thin glass and lack of a rubber cushion surrounding the magnet at the base. Never grasp this hourglass from the neck or center area but only from the base and use both hands to carefully remove and gently place on the base. I collect hour glasses. I was reluctant to order this one again but my grand daughters are intrigued with the iron filings. I don't anticipate this one to last very long due to my previously mentioned concerns.

I purchased this for myself to have on my desk at the office.First, this is an eye catcher. I have had colleagues stop at my desk once they see this and it is a great conversation piece.Second, the design is great. The worn copper base gives a vintage look and feel and I feel smarter having it.The magnet is powerful enough the create designs as the filings fall and if you hold it by the glass itself, the base will come with it.Overall, good little piece and worth the price if you are looking to add some flavor to your environment.

I had another one like this that was much better. It had a thin foam pad around the magnet on the bottom to protect the glass. This one has no such thing, just bare metal. Also one side is slightly lopsided on the bottom, which you can't see but it makes the hourglass a little off center on the base. The other side is good though. The magnet dust would make better shapes if it wasn't so fine

Looks nice, smaller than I pictured, but to no fault of the seller. I do wish the sand timer lasted a bit longer - it seems to run a little less than a minute. However, given the small size, there's not much that can be done there. It does feel kind of flimsy, as if it may break if I don't set the hourglass down on the magnetic base softly enough.

I give this 3 stars because while it's fun and pretty, it's small. It's not like something you can actually play with. The glass is REALLY fragile and if you put it down on the metal base too hard I think it will break. The metal base is what makes the magnet flakes work too, so it's kinda a catch 22. So it's cool and all but it's like 15 seconds of cool and it all depends on how much risk you want to put into it. My kids love it but I don't let them play with it very much because of its delicate nature. I actually keep it in a ceramic dish my preschooler made me lol. So it more ornamental than anything (because we all use our hourglasses right)...I'd include a photo but I'm writing my review at 3am and the husband asleep in the bedroom ;)

This hourglass is minimalist in design. There is nothing that stands out or is striking about it. The metal shavings form a spiky pile when on the faux brass base which has a silver magnet mounted in the center.However,the shavings barely cover the molded indentations in the bases of the thin glass that makes up the houseglass,perhaps keeping with a minimalist theme. As a result, the shavings move from one half to the other in less than twenty seconds, which is about enough time to try to center the piece carefully enough to prevent breaking the bottoms,which other reviews have mentioned doing.I will probably put tape of some sort, probably clear gorilla tape,on the bottoms to strengthen them.Other than these points, this is a basic and somewhat generic piece that makes for an eye-catching shelf or desk item,but lacks function or any significant depth other than the minute amount of ferrous shavings that make a somewhat interesting pile of magnetic fur.

I am a big fan of hourglasses, and thought this would be a fun one to have (I also figured my nieces would get a kick out of it)This is a beautiful hourglass, and has a really nice-looking and heavy base. The designs are fun, no two are the same, and it changes constantly while the "sand" (finely-ground metal) pours on to it. It makes you want to just stare at it while it pours. I like the fact that the "sand" is black, the hourglass it is next to in my living room is also glass.The *only* thing I would change about it is to make it bigger, it is a pretty small hourglass (the dimensions are right at the beginning of the description, so I knew how big it was already and wasn't dissapointed). However it is a great hourglass for the price, I doubt you could even get the stand for this price elsewhere.

This is a fun hour glass to watch. Doesn't state a designated time, but its more of a novelty than a time keeper. I would like it more if there were more "sand" in it. Overall worth the money spent on it for a boy who has always wanted an hourglass.

I got this as a gift for someone else, and I was happy with it for the price paid. The packaging was well done so it arrived in great condition. As others have said, be careful as the magnet and filaments can/will snap together pretty strongly. I didn't have any issue with the glass breaking, but did notice the snap when they pulled together and iy seems possible it could break if you're not careful.

My husband saw one of these in a store a few months ago and instantly fell in love with it. I bought this for him as a Christmas gift and was incredibly impressed by the quality of it!I read several other reviewers who said it is made of thin glass and I would have to agree. Definitely not a children's toy but perfect for a unique adult/teen gift! It lasts about 10-15 seconds and is really fun to watch or make cool patterns with. Very cool timer, would definitely recommend for any science nerd!! :)

I wouldn't call this a toy by any means. It is fragile, hand-blown, thin glass. If you aren't careful, the base will snap on to the glass and probably break it. With all that said, I will not let my 2 or 4 y/o kids play with it. All in all, I love it! I think it's unique, petite, and fun!
